A section of students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College have threatened to go on hunger strike demanding the release of grade nine class teacher Hasna Hena, who is in jail, in a case filed over the suicide of Aritree Adhikari, reports UNB.
They gathered in front of Bailey road branch of the school on Sunday morning and announced the hunger strikes if the teacher is not released.
The students have been demonstrating since Thursday demanding their teacher's release.
Detectives arrested Hasna Hena from the city's Uttara on Wednesday night amid protests of students over the suicide incident. A Dhaka court sent her to jail the next day.
Ninth grader Aritree committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday, hours after the school's teachers allegedly insulted her and her parents for carrying a mobile phone at examination hall.
Her father Dilip Adhikari later filed a case against three teachers, including the principal, of the school.
