A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent two owners of Wahed Mansion in Chawkbazar, from where a devastating fire originated on the night of 20 February that killed at least 71 people, to jail rejecting their bail petitions, reports UNB.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Qaisarul Islam sent Md Hasan and Sohel alias Shahid to jail upon their surrender to it.
The siblings sought fresh bail from the lower court through their lawyer as the tenure of their three weeks bail granted by the High Court expired.
After hearing, the court rejected the bail pleas and sent them to jail.
Earlier on 11 March, a High Court bench comprising of justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted three-week bail to the siblings and asked them to surrender before lower court after the tenure of the given bail is over and cooperate with investigation officer of the case filed over the deadly fire.
A total of 71 people were killed and dozens others were injured in a fire that broke out at Wahed Mansion in Churihatta of Dhaka's Chawkbazar and raged through four other adjacent buildings. Two cases were filed over the incident.
