The bodies of retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife and their son and daughter were recovered from a three-storey building in Kamal Kachhna Machuapara village in Rangpur city.
Local residents and police discovered the bodies at around 8:30 pm on Saturday.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and metropolitan police have cordoned off the building.
The deceased were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, their son Ayush Chakraborty, 14, and daughter Agami Chakraborty, 28.
Rangpur CID police inspector Abu Hasan Kabir confirmed the recovery of the four bodies. He said a bad smell had spread throughout the building.
Police suspect that someone killed the family. The entire family lived on the second floor of the building.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali police station AKM Nazmul Kader said the murders were believed to have taken place two or three days ago.
Rangpur CID officer-in-charge Sumit Chowdhury inspected the scene and told journalists at around 1:00 am, “From what we have seen so far, it appears to be a robbery. It seems the incident took place three or four days ago. The house’s electricity connection had been disconnected. Everything where money was kept had been broken. It appears that they were killed by strangling around their necks.”
