Two special assistants to prime minister appointed with state minister rank

Two special assistants to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have been appointed with the status of state minister.

Among them, former bureaucrat Bijon Kanti Sarkar has been made special assistant on Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and ethnic minority affairs, while Tanvir Gani has been appointed special assistant on investment and capital market affairs.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman appointed and assigned them as special assistants in accordance with the Rules of Business. The Cabinet Division disclosed this information in separate notifications issued on Thursday.

Following a landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election, a 50-member cabinet led by BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman was sworn in on 17 February. Subsequently, the portfolios of ministers and state ministers were reshuffled several times.

Altogether, the total number of members in the new cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman now stands at 49. Among them, excluding the prime minister, there are 25 full ministers and 23 state ministers.

In addition, there were 10 advisers to the prime minister with the status of minister and state minister. Now, two more have been appointed as special assistants with the status of state minister.
