
‘Abducted’ poet and columnist Farhad Mazhar has been rescued from Noapara of Abhaynagar in Jessore by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Members of RAB-6 rescued him around 11:30pm on Monday, said RAB-6 adjutant Utpal Ray, according to Prothom Alo Jessore correspondent.
Meanwhile, Prothom Alo’s Khulna correspondent said that RAB-6 director Khandker Rafiqul Islam has confirmed Farhad Mazhar’s rescue adding that he was being taken to Khulna.
Farhad Mazhar was rescued around 11:30pm when he was returning to Dhaka from Khulna in a Hanif Paribahan bus, said the RAB-6 director.
Earlier in the day, Farhad Mazhar was reportedly abducted by unknown miscreants from his Adabar residence in the capital.
Quoting family members, Mohsin, a sub-inspector of Adabar police station, said Farhad Mazhar came out of his residence, 'Haq Garden', at Adabar Link Road after receiving a phone call around 5:00am on Monday.
His wife later got a phone call from the unknown miscreants demanding Tk 35,00,000 as ransom for his release, he said.
Having failed to know the whereabouts of Farhad Mazhar till 10:00am, his family members went to Adabar police station and informed the police about it.
