Search committee shortlists 12-13 names for EC

The search committee has shortlisted 12-13 persons to recommend for the posts of chief election commissioner and other commissioners.

The president of the search committee justice Obaidul Hassan told this to journalists on Saturday following a meeting of the committee on Sunday.

He said the committee will finalise a list of 10 persons during the last meeting on 22 February. They would later recommend the names to the president.

Earlier on Saturday, the cabinet division’s secretary (coordination and reforms) Md Shamsul Arefin told reporters after a two-hour meeting that the search committee prepared a list of 20 persons for the job of chief election commissioner and other election commissioners.

On 5 February, the government formed a six-member search committee headed by Appellate Division’s justice Obaidul Hassan. Political parties and individuals submitted names to the search committee.
