
The government has put in place the highest level of security for the return home of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. In addition, the party will also arrange its own security measures for him, BSS reports.
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that maximum security would be ensured across the capital centring on Tarique Rahman’s return on 25 December.
BSS reports Jahangir Alam Chowdhury saying, “We have already taken preparations to ensure Tarique Rahman’s safe arrival in the country.”
He further said that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to remain fully alert and coordinated. He stressed that the government is committed to maintaining public security.
Speaking to BSS about Tarique Rahman’s security, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Baharul Alam said the BNP acting chairman is an important individual and that the highest level of security has been arranged for him. Law enforcement personnel will be deployed both in uniform and plainclothes, alongside personal security arranged by the BNP.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam told BSS that an adequate number of intelligence officers would be deployed to ensure security during Tarique Rahman’s return.
Sources said that after arriving in the country, Tarique Rahman will receive police escort and special security during his movements. Security arrangements will also be in place at his residence and office. Alongside uniformed personnel, plainclothes intelligence officers will remain engaged in his protection.
Police sources said a large number of officers would be deployed along the route from the airport to Gulshan. Members of the DMP’s SWAT team will also be on duty.
DMP sources added that maximum security measures will be enforced across Dhaka on the day of Tarique Rahman’s return.
Anticipating a large public gathering in the capital to welcome the BNP acting chairman, the party has already urged its leaders and activists to maintain discipline.
According to BNP sources, Brigadier General (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam has been appointed as the chief security officer to oversee Tarique Rahman’s security from the airport to Gulshan. Under his leadership, multiple teams, including the Chairperson Security Force, will work to provide multi-layered protection throughout the journey.
After nearly one and a half decades, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is returning to the country from London on 25 December. BNP leaders said he is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka that day, where the party will formally welcome him.
