A moment of silence to honor Real Madrid great Alfredo Di Stefano will be held before Wednesday's World Cup semi-final between Argentina and the Netherlands, FIFA have confirmed.

World football's governing body said in a statement the decision had been taken after consultation with the Argentina Football Association and Real Madrid.

"A moment of silence will be held ahead of the match in memory of Di Stefano and a picture of him will be shown on the stadium’s giant screen," FIFA said.

"Furthermore, Argentina’s national team will wear black armbands."

Argentine born legend Di Stefano died on Monday aged 88.
