Soumya, Sabbir picked for ‘A’ team tour of West Indies

Since playing against Australia in a Super-12 phase match of last year’s ICC Twenty20 World Cup, Soumya Sarkar has been out of the national team in all formats.

He even lost his place from the Mohammedan team during this year’s Dhaka Premier League (DPL) owing to his terrible form.

The left-handed top-order batsman then trained in the Bangladesh Tigers camp and also took part in an inter-university indoor cricket tournament.

Soumya has been given a chance to prove himself worthy of a return to the Bangladesh team as he has been selected in the squad for Bangladesh ‘A’ team’s forthcoming tour of West Indies.

Bangladesh ‘A’ team will land in Saint Lucia on 31 July to take part in two four-day games and three 50-over matches against their Caribbean counterparts.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has declared separate 15-man squads for the four-day and one-day series. Soumya has been picked for the 50-over matches.

Saif Hassan

Like Soumya, a few other cricketers who were axed from the national team, have been picked for the tour. Opener Saif Hassan and Mohammad Mithun, who are not currently part of the national team’s setup in any format, have been named in both the four-day and one-day squad.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who opened the innings for Bangladesh in the recently concluded two-Test series against West Indies, has been named in both squads.

Sabbir Rahman

Batsman Sabbir Rahman, who has been out of the national side for almost three years, has been picked to play in the 50-over series.

All matches of the tour will take place at the Darren Sammy Stadium in Saint Lucia. The tour will commence with the first four-day match starting on 4 August.
