All educational institutions in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions will remain closed on Tuesday due to the cyclone 'Sitrang'.
State minister for education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury on Monday confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo.
Apart from this, instruction has been given to use the educational institutions in the disaster-prone areas as cyclone centres. Over the issue, a press release from the ministry said those educational institutions will use as shelters would be closed under further notice is issued.
The powerful cyclone has already hit parts of Bangladesh coastal region on Monday evening with stormy wind and incessant rain.
It is supposed to ravage Chattogram and Barishal coast at the dead of Monday night.
Mongla and Payra sea ports, Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have already been asked to hoist signal No. 7.
Meteorologist Md Monowar Hossain told Prothom Alo that the forefront of the cyclone hit the coast this evening. The centre of the cyclone will ravage Chattogram and Barishal coasts via Kepupara in Patuakhali on Monday midnight.
He said the force of Sitrang will decrease steadily early on Tuesday.
Due to its influence, rainfall will occur in the coastal and other regions, the official added.
