Primary teacher recruitment: Circular to be published today, 10,219 posts

The circular for the recruitment of 10,219 assistant teachers in government primary schools will be published today, Wednesday, 6 November.

After a long wait, this recruitment circular marks the fresh start of large-scale recruitment process in primary education.

According to the Directorate of Primary Education, in the first phase, the recruitment circular will be published for vacant posts in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal, and Mymensingh divisions. The recruitment notice for Dhaka and Chattogram divisions will be published in the next phase.

A senior official at the Directorate of Primary Education, speaking to Prothom Alo on Wednesday on condition of anonymity, said, “All preparations for the recruitment notice have been completed. The recruitment notice will be published tomorrow, Thursday in the country’s national newspapers for 10,219 vacant posts.”

Earlier, on the night of 28 August this year, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued the ‘Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules, 2025’ notification.

Three days later, on 31 August, an eight-member ‘Central Primary School Teacher Recruitment Committee’ was formed.

The committee is chaired by the Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, while the member-secretary is the director of Policy and Operations of the directorate.

In addition, representatives from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Ministry of Public Administration, the Bureau of Non-Formal Education, and the Public Service Commission are also members of the committee.

However, the notification was delayed due to certain errors in the revised rules. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education later corrected these errors and on 2 November reissued the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules, 2025.

In the new rules, the phrase ‘in other subjects’ has been replaced with ‘at least in science and other subjects’. As a result, candidates in science will now also receive priority in direct recruitment. The rules further state that 80 per cent of headteacher appointments will be through promotion and 20 per cent through direct recruitment.

For promotion, a candidate must have at least 12 years of service as an assistant teacher, completed basic training, and have permanent employment. For direct recruitment, candidates for both head teacher and assistant teacher posts must hold a bachelor’s or honours degree with at least second-class or equivalent CGPA from a recognised university.

A third division or equivalent result at any stage in their academic life will not be acceptable. The age limit for direct recruitment to both head teacher and assistant teacher posts has been set at 32 years.

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) on 28 October, the Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education said, “Currently, around 13,500 assistant teacher posts are vacant across the country. After the issuance of the teacher recruitment rules, we will start the recruitment process promptly. The recruitment process will begin in November through the publication of the notification.”
