Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained three more people from a bordering area in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah early Friday while entering the country from India illegally, reports news agency UNB.

Quamrul Hasan, assistant director of BGB Battalion-58, said a patrol team of the border guard detained them from Shyamkur village of the upazila around 3:30am.

During primary interrogation, the detainees claimed that they went to the neighbouring country for having treatment, he said.

They were handed over to Maheshpur police station, he added.

In November, BGB said it detained 260 alleged Bangladeshis for crossing the border from India without valid travel documents.

On 7 December, it said they detained 12 held for entering Bangladesh from India, while three on 8 December, six on 15 December and four were detained on 16 December for crossing the border illegally.
