4 JMB suspects remanded over murder attempt on priest
A Pabna court on Tuesday placed four suspected members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a five-day remand each in the case for the murder attempt on church priest Luke Sarkar.
Pabna chief judicial magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order after officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station Biman Kumar Das, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before his court with a 10-day remand prayer in the case.
Those who were remanded are Ziaur Rahman, 35, of Singa Palpara area, Shariful Islam alias Tulbi, 22, of Majidpur Maddhyapara village, Abdul Alim, 36, of Niamatulsapur village in Sadar upazila and Amzad Hossain, 30, of Raghabbaria village in Ullahpara upazila of Sirajganj distirct.
Earlier on Monday, police arrested five members of JMB, including the above-mentioned four, over the murder attempt on church priest Luke Sarkar.
Of the five arrestees, Rakibul Islam Rabbi, 22, a resident of Nurpur Gangkola village in Sadar upazila, gave his confessional statement over the murder attempt on the priest.
Luke Sarkar, 52, a pastor of Faith Bible Church, escaped a murder attempt with injures as some unidentified youths tried to silt his throat at his house at School Para in Ishwardi upazila on October 5.
The youths, however, fled the scene when Luke screamed for help.
