64-year-old swims 186km in 61 hrs
Khitindra Chandra Boishya, a 64-year-old freedom fighter, has crossed 186 kilometers of Bhogai river by swimming to set a new Guinness World Record.
The current record holder is a female swimmer, Diana Nyad, of Florida in the USA. She swam 177kms at a stretch at the age of 64, reports UNB.
Khitindra began swimming from a bridge in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur at 7:00am on Monday and finished at Dewan Bazar Ghat of Madan upazila in Netrokona around 8:00pm on Wednesday after 61 hours without taking any break.
Hundreds of enthusiastic people were present there.
Madan Upazila Nagarik Committee and Nalitabari municipality supported Khitindra to make his attempt a success.
Born in Madan upazila of Netrokona district, Khitindra Chandra Boishya served as an ANS consultant of Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh.
