AL takes lead in Rajshahi, Barishal, BNP in Sylhet

Ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) mayoral candidates took lead in Rajshahi and Barishal cities while the BNP contestant in Sylhet in the counting of votes in the civic polls marred by boycotts and widespread rigging on Monday.

In Rajshahi, Awami League contestant AHM Khairuzzaman Liton bagged 160,197 votes while his nearest rival Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul of BNP polled 75,019 in 136 centres out of total 138.

In Sylhet, BNP candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury bagged 79,540 votes in 117 centres out of total 134 while AL's Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran got 76,335.

In Barishal, AL candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah got 99,105 votes while Mujibur Rahman Sarwar of BNP 12,083 in 99 centres out of total 123.
