Daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman was indicted by a court in Dhaka on Monday on charges of showing negligence in submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Special Judge Basudev Roy passed the order following a petition filed by ACC lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajal. The court also fixed 28 May for next hearing.

The court also rejected a petition filed by Mahmudur’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukdar seeking time saying that an appeal was pending with the High Court in that regard.

On April 13 and 19 in 2010, the ACC served notice to Mahmudur Rahman for submitting his wealth statement. Later ACC deputy director Nur Ahmed filed a case with the Gulshan Police against Mahmudur Rahman for not responding to the notice in 13 June 2010.

ACC deputy director Nur Ahmed submitted chargesheet on 15 July 2010.
