Though the students burst into protest against the killing of Abrar Fahad, BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) vice chancellor professor Saiful Islam could not yet appear before them, reports UNB.

In the morning, the angry students of BUET threatened that they would announce a fresh programme if the VC does not appear on the campus by 5:00pm today (Tuesday).

“Though the deadline is over, the VC was not seen on the campus,” said the UNB correspondent from the spot.

About the VC’s absence, BUET Teachers’ Association president professor AKM Masud said it is unexpected that the vice chancellor has not yet visited the campus.

Tension on the BUET campus escalated as its students came out from different residential halls and gathered in front of the university’s central cafeteria around 10:00am to press home their 7-point demand, including the arrest of all the accused in Abrar Fahad murder case and their capital punishment.

The demands include expulsion of all the identified killers from the university for life within 72 hours, trial of the case under a tribunal, appearance of BUET vice chancellor Saiful Islam on the campus by 5:00pm today, expulsion of those who mentally and physically torture students for expressing dissents.

Besides, withdrawal of Sher-e-Bangla Hall provost Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Khan before 5:00pm for his ignorance about the incident of driving out some students from the hall using political clout, bearing all the expenses of Abrar murder case by the BUET administration and compensation to Abrar’s family and banning party politics on the campus were also demanded.

Abrar, 21, a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET, was pronounced dead around 3:00am on Monday by BUET medical officer Md Mashuk Elahi after he was mercilessly beaten allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of the university unit.
