DIG Mizanur suspended

President Abdul Hamid has given approval to the suspension order of Deputy Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman from his post, home ministry officials said.
He will be attached to the police headquarters, the officials confirmed Prothom Alo.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday told Prothom Alo, “Following the suspension, preparation is underway to file a lawsuit by the department against him (DIG Mizan).”
A proposal was sent to the president for the suspension of Mizanur as the allegation of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel was found true in an investigation.
DIG Mizan was an additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was withdrawn on 9 January last year following the allegation of threatening the female news presenter.
He had also reportedly married a woman forcibly and tortured her. Mizan allegedly picked up the 25-year-old woman in July 2017 and forcibly married her.
He had also implicated her in a false case whereby she was arrested and remained in jail for three weeks.
The home ministry sent the proposal to the president hurriedly as an allegation against him of bribing an official of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) came to the fore.
The police department has also formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter.
