Geneva Camp youth's eye damaged by 'police rubber bullet'

A young man, suspected to have been hit by a rubber bullet during a clash between the law enforcers and residents of Mohammadpur Geneva Camp on Saturday, could lose his right eye.

The injured Md Rocky Hossain, 22, son of a rickshaw puller, used to work at a motorcycle garage in the camp area.

H is a resident of Geneva Camp where stranded Pakistanis live.

Family members of Rocky alleged that his right eye had been damaged by a rubber bullet shot by police.

The camp residents locked into a clash with police on Saturday as they demonstrated for uninterrupted power supply in the camp.

Rocky was inside the garage while he was hit as police fired rubber bullet to disperse the protesters and he was not involved in the protest, claimed Mithu, Rocky's cousin.

The camp residents started their demonstration in front of the garage where Rooky works, he added.

Mithu said that part of Rocky's right eye got protruded and he was not able to see.

Rooky was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then shifted to National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital.

Medical officer of DMCH, Mousumi Sultana Zerin, said major part of Roky’s right eye was ruptured and more could be said after conducting tests in the eye.
