Attacker calls Zafar Iqbal an 'enemy of Islam': Law enforcement

The attacker who knifed noted writer Muhammed Zafar Iqbal has confessed to the law enforcement that he had attacked the SUST professor as 'he is an enemy of Islam', reports news agency UNB.
Lieutenant colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, commanding officer of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9), said this while briefing reporters at Sylhet Ragib Rabeya Medical College and Hospital around 1:00am.
The attacker was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Sylhet.
He is not disclosing accurate information about his identity, said the official.
The attacker, identified as Faizur Rahman, is a madrasa student. He is the son of maulana Atikur Rahman, a resident of Derai upazila in Sunamganj district.
He has been residing with his family members at Sheikh Para in Kumargaon area of the city. His father teaches at Tukerbazar Mahila Madrasa.
The noted writer received injuries in the knife attack on the campus on Saturday afternoon.
He is now undergoing treatment at the Dhaka CMH.
