Imran Sarkar attacked at Shahbagh

Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar came under attack at Shahbag intersection in the city on Thursday.

He alleged that a group of young men attacked him and his assistants when they were collecting relief materials.

“We were then collecting funds for the flood victims. All of a sudden, a group of young men chased us and beat up with sticks,” Sarkar told Prothom Alo.

Imran Sarkar added that the attackers were shouting at them and saying that there was no flood in the country. "You people have made it up (flood),” one of the attackers was quoted to have said.

Sarkar said he would lodge a case with the Shahbag police station following the attack.

Imran H Sarkar came to the limelight in 2013 when the Ganajagaran Mancha or the platform for mass awakening was formed to demand execution of the accused in the cases of crimes against humanity during the 1971 liberation war.
