'Indian national' held with gold bars

Police arrested an 'Indian national' along with two gold bars in City Gate area on Thursday, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Ranjit Acharya, 52.

Acting on a tip off, a team of police arrested Ranjit while crossing the police checkpost near the City Gate area in the afternoon, said Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah police station.

Police also recovered two gold bars worth Tk 950,000, an Indian passport, Rs 2,000 and Tk 3,000 from him.

Police said Ranjit had been involved in smuggling gold from Bangladesh.
