A Supreme Court lawyer on Thursday sent a legal notice seeking security of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president Nurul Haque, who had been beaten by Bangladesh Chhatra League men on several occasions.

Lawyer Md. Moniruzzaman sent the notice by mail to the home secretary, the Dhaka University vice-chancellor (VC) and the DU proctor.

On 22 December, BCL men and leaders and activists of a section of Muktijuddha Mancha attacked VP Nurul at his office at DUCSU building on the campus with iron rods and bamboo sticks. The incident left 24 injured. Of them, nine are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The notice requested to provide enough security to Nurul Haque within seven days of receiving the notice. Otherwise a plea will be made to the court, it added.

The notice also said Nurul Haque was attacked for the seventh time but no investigation or trial was ensured in the past incidents.
