Mahfuz Anam gets bail in Magura

A Magura court on Tuesday granted bail to The Daily Star editor and publisher Mahfuz Anam in a defamation case.

Senior judicial magistrate Imtiajul Islam granted him the bail on a bond of Tk 2,000 after hearing the lawsuit.

The court also fixed 19 May for next hearing in the case, reports UNB news agency.

Magura district unit Jubo League vice-president Saberul Islam Sabuj filed the Tk 5 crore lawsuit against Mahfuz with the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s court on 18 February for publishing ‘confusing’ and ‘defamatory’ reports in his daily on Awami League president Sheikh Hasina during the military-backed caretaker government.
