Nusrat was set afire on principal’s instruction: PBI

Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi was burnt to death at the directive of madrasa principal Siraj Ud Daula, Police Bureau of Investigation claimed.
“The incident of Nusrat murder was carried out by the principal’s order,” PBI chief Bonoz Kumar Mazumdar told a press briefing at its Dhanmondi headquarters on Saturday.
A total of 13 people were involved in the arson attack on Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrasa student of Feni, according to the police.
“Among the 13 people, four people, including two girls, had the direct involvement in setting fire to Nusrat,” said Bonoz Kumar.
Seven people have so far been arrested in connection with Nusrat’s murder while a PBI team is conducting a drive to arrest the remaining six, he said.
PBI identified two reasons behind the attack—filing the case against principal of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa Siraj-Ud-Doula over sexually harassing the girl and her refusal of love offer by an Awami League leader.
Apart from filing the case, Nusrat turned down several times a love offer made by Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa unit president of Chhatra League.
Meanwhile, Shamim was arrested from Muktagachha upazila in Mymensingh early Saturday.
The accused people held a meeting at West Hostel of the madrasa for killing the girl on 5 April following their meeting with the madarsa principal in jail.
On 6 April, Nusrat was set afire at an examination centre allegedly by people loyal to the principal after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as she had accused him of sexually harassing her.
NusratJahan lost her battle for life at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night, five days after the incident.
