Painting and planting for the planet

A programme with the title 'Plant for Planet' was organised at Bottomley Home Girls High School in Tejgaon, Dhaka on Sunday. It was the 42nd event organised by environmental organisation, Green Savers, and fashion brand Sailor.

Students of the school were given 25 fruits, flowers and medicinal plants. They made an aesthetic garden for the school with those trees.

The students painted the drums, provided by the organisers and used those to plant the trees. They placed the drums on the terrace and the school compound. At least 200 students, teachers and school staff took part in making the garden. The objective of the programme is to make the students aware of the environment.

The two organisations have been organising such events at all recognised educational institutions in Dhaka for the past four years to make children accustomed to environmentally friendly lifestyle, grow sense of responsibilities to the environment among them, to increase their participation in environment-related tasks.

The event has been going on since 2014. Earlier, 41 educational institutions in Dhaka have been successfully took part in the 'Plant for Planet' programme.

About 2,335 trees have been planted in different schools. About 21,000 students and 1,400 teachers, school staff and parents have been involved with the event.

Through this programme, the two organisers also teach the students about planting trees and the various methods related to its care.
