Police constable Tawhida's bravery and intelligence reunited a daughter with her mother.

Tawhida Akhter, a constable of Khulna district police lines, decided to start investigating the case of her niece's disappearance on her own.

She eventually succeeded finding the victim and the perpetrator, but the probe hadn’t been easy.

Tawhida had to disguise herself as a beggar dumped by her husband.

The missing girl had been trying to escape child marriage but got into deeper trouble.

That girl's mother wanted to marry her off after her SSC examination. However, the girl wanted to escape the marriage and contacted her distant relative Babul Farazi, 45.

Babul was married with children.

On 22 March, she arrived Chittagong from Dhaka with Farazi. Babul kept her captive after arrival. Her mother searched for her daughter for about one month. Later, on 22 April, she filed a case with Bagerhat Sadar police station.

Tawhida learned that Babul was staying at a house in Pahartoli Haji Camp area with the girl.

Tawhida kept up her investigaions.

She posed as a woman abandoned by her husband.

She showed a picture of Babul and asked around if anyone knew him.

That didn’t work.

Five days went on in that manner.

Tawhida got to know from a family source that Babul's sister lived in Baizid Bostami area. She disguised as beggar and probed further. She showed Babul's photo around at a nearby hair salon and eventually managed to get his sister's address.

She informed the Bayazid Bostami police station.

Bayazid Bostami police inspector (Investigation) Main Uddin said they rescued the girl and arrested Babul on 7 May.

Tawhida told Prothom Alo on Monday that it was not simply because the girl was her niece, but it was a relief to be able to return a young girl to her mother.
