Public buses go off streets
Transport workers refrained from operating city bus services as students movement enters 6th day on Friday.
School and college students began the demonstration demanding punishment to those responsible for 29 July accident on Dhaka airport road, which killed two of their fellows, and resignation of the shipping minister for his comments on the accident.
People continued to suffer in the capital as the transport owners and workers withdrew buses fearing vandalism, reports UNB.
The transport workers took position on the roads and staged demonstrations in the city's Sayedabad, Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Jatrabari bus terminal areas in the morning demanding their safety.
Many people were seen moving on foot and some taking rickshaws to reach their destinations.
On 29 July, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a 'Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan' bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on airport road.
