The police have banned any rally, mass gathering and procession, imposing section 144 in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh in the wake of a clash between teachers and students of Fulbaria College and policemen that left two dead on Sunday.

Fulbaria police officer-in-charge Rifat Khan confirmed this to Prothom Alo.

Witnesses said, on Sunday, Fulbaria College students, teachers and local people clashed with the police over nationalisation of the college that left two people - Abul Kalam Azad, a teacher, and another man named Safar Ali - dead.

However, police claimed that the teacher was physically ill and the man died far away from the spot of the clash.

Teachers and students of the college alleged that the police also barred them to bring the body of their slain teacher to the college.

Convener of Fulbaria College Nationalisation Committee SM Abul Hashem told Prothom Alo that on Sunday night, police took the body of Abul Kalam Azad to his home in Mymensign’s Sankipara area.

The students and teachers on Monday morning tried to bring the body on the college campus, but police barred them doing so.

Police then brought the body to his village home. The body is scheduled to be buried today, the teacher added.

Fulbaria police officer-in-charge Rifat Khan said the college authorities did not inform them about bringing the body to the campus.
