Selfie on rail line costs schoolboy his life

A schoolboy was killed and another injured as they were hit by a train while taking selfie on the rail line in Dhaka's Kuril on Sunday.

The victim was Imran Hossain, 16, son of Shah Alam of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj while the injured is Al Rafi, 16, son of Kamal Miah, an expatriate of the same area. Both of them were the students of class X at Mujibur Rahman High School of Rupganj's Gola Kandail.

Imran's uncle Md Al Amin told Prothom Alo that his nephew went to school in the morning. But Imran, instead of going to school, went to Kuril Bishwa Road with four others friends, he added.

At one stage, both Imran and Rafi were hit by a running train as they were taking a selfie, Al Amin said quoting witnesses.

Being critically injured, Imran and Rafi were taken to the Kurmitula General Hospital where the on-duty physician declared Imran dead around 11:00am, he added.

Rafi is now undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Bangladesh Railway Police sub-inspector Md Mohiuddin confirmed the accident.
