Sylhet-Ctg rail link restored

Train movement on the Sylhet-Chittagong route resumed after a suspension for about five hours following a train derailment near Akhaura railway station on Sunday.

Sources at the railway station said a compartment of the Chittagong-bound ‘Udayan Express’ train from Sylhet veered off the tracks in the area around 4:45 am, halting train services on the Sylhet-Chittagong route.

On information, a salvage train rushed to the spot and the train services resumed around 9:00am after removal of the derailed carriage.

Five passengers of the compartment were injured who received first aid at a local hospital.
