Tazrin wins US award on architecture

A fourth-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Tazrin Islam alias Ananya won in the Berkeley Prize competition, an essay writing competition for the architecture students.

Tazrin bagged the first prize of the essay competition by writing an essay on  "Unlivable city versus beloved city".

The three-tier contest prolonged for half a year.

College of Environmental Design of "University of California" has been arranging the Berkely Prize Competition since 1998.
This time, the contest began on September of last year and continued till April 2014. The names of the winners were announced on 20 April.  

This years; theme was "The Architect and the Healthy Environment." A total of 139 undergraduate architecture students from 31 different universities all over the world participated in the competition.

Tazrin has been awarded the $5,000 first prize from among 139 students. Tazrin prepared her essay with 2500 words and four photographs. 

The main focus of the topic was to analysis the reverse role of architecture, both in healthful and unhealthful architectural constructions.
Tazrin chose "Hatirjheel Project" of Dhaka city as her subject. 

Architecture student Tazrin completed her secondary and higher-secondary levels from Viqarun Nisa Noon School and College.

Tazrin said that she wants to do her final-year thesis paper on " Recovering the water bodies of Dhaka" which will be a continuity of her essay on Hatirjheel.

Tazrin is the youngest among the three daughters of Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan and Mahmuda Islam.
Architecture and philosopher Louis Kahn and Mazharul Islam inspired her.
