EU stresses ‘particular scrutiny and attention’ in criminal proceedings against journos

The European Union (EU) and the EU Member States in Bangladesh said that “particular scrutiny and attention” is extremely important for any arrest of journalists or criminal proceedings against them in any country.

This was said in a tweet of European Union in Bangladesh on Thursday when two cases have been filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against Prothom Alo’s staff correspondent Samsuzzaman.

Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman have also been made the main accused in one of the cases filed with Ramna police station in the capital.

The EU also said in the tweet that this “particular scrutiny and attention” is important in light of the imperative of protecting the freedom of media and of expression as part of democratic values.
