17 die as lightning strikes bridal party in Chapainawabganj

Seventeen members of a bridal party were killed in lightning strikes at Telikhari Ghat of Padma river in Shibganj of Chapainawabganj on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident took place around 12:00pm that injured another six people, said Shibganj upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Shakib-Al-Rabbi.

The injured were admitted to Sadar Upazila Health Complex, he added. “All of the deceased were from Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.”

UNO Shakib also said that the bridal party members took shelter at a place while it was raining at Telikhari Ghat in Paka union of the upazila that time. The lightning strike left 17 people dead there, he added.
