Four killed as train hits auto-rickshaw

Four women were killed and four others injured when a train hit an auto-rickshaw carrying them at a level crossing in Nilphamari Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Shefali Begum, Romana, Sahera and Minara, all aged 35 years and workers of Uttara EPZ. The victims were residents of Daroani Dhanipara village in Sadar upazila.

Abdur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Saidpur Railway police station, said the Chilahati-bound Simanta Express from Khulna crashed into the battery-run auto in the Daroani area, leaving one dead on the spot and seven others injured.

The injured were taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead.

The hospital authorities later referred three of the injured to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, and another victim died on the way to the medical facility.
