Journalist killed in Hatirjheel road accident
A journalist died after allegedly being run over by a speeding vehicle in the Begunbari area of Dhaka’s Hatirjheel in the early hours of Wednesday, UNB reports.
The deceased was identified as Habib Rahman, son of Mohammad Piar Mia of Brahmanpara upazila in Cumilla. He was a senior reporter with ‘Daily Somoyer Alo’.
Assistant sub-inspector at Hatirjheel police station, Kayes Uddin said, “Passersby found Habib in a critical condition around 2.40am and alerted cops.”
Habib was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where physicians declared him dead on arrival.
Police suspect that Habib, also the organising secretary of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), was run over by an unidentified vehicle.
The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, inspector at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost.
