16 killed as bus plunges into ditch
At least 16 people were killed and 30 others injured as a bus fell into a ditch in Kutubpur of Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Sunday morning.
The bus met with the accident near the Pachchar area of the approach road to Padma Bridge.
Shibchar Highway police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abu Naim Mofazzal Haque confirmed this to Prothom Alo.
Police and local witnesses say the bus fell into the ditch as the driver lost control over the steering, leaving 14 people killed on the spot. Two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital, they added.
