Anu Muhammad tests positive for coronavirus

Anu Muhammad, member secretary of the national committee to protect oil, gas, mineral resources, power and ports, and professor of economics at Jahangirnagar University, has contracted COVID-19. He is undergoing treatment at the Mugda General Hospital in the capital city. His wife Shilpi Barua had been diagnosed with coronavirus before him.

The professor’s samples were tested at the Dhaka Medical College on Thursday and the sample results given on Saturday were positive.

Anu Muhammad has confirmed that both he and his wife have coronavirus. He told Prothom Ali that on 21 July his wife Shilpi Barua developed fever. On 25 July her samples were collected and on 28 July Dhaka Medical College Hospital informed them that she was COVID-19 positive. Then he developed coronavirus symptoms and gave his samples for testing.

“Shilpi Barua was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after her tests results were positive,” said Anu Muhammad, “then she was transferred to the coronavirus unit at Mugda General Hospital. She has recovered considerably. Her recovery will be fully confirmed after certain lung tests.”

He said, “Following the physician’s advice, I have got admitted to Mugda General Hospital too. I have fever and a cough, but no other complications.”
