BSF shoots Bangladeshi dead at Patgram
India’s Border Security Force (BSF) early morning on Thursday opened fire and shot dead a Bangladesh national at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district.
The deceased is Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan, 20, son of Nasimuddin, hailing from Mangalbari village of Burimari union.
The incident occurred along the border with Bherbherihat village of Jagatber union.
The upazila health and family planning officer, Arup Pal, said that Mizan had been shot in the back of his head and had died on the way to the hospital.
According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the police, a group of Bangladeshis on Wednesday night had gone to take delivery of cows from the border-lying village of Parashar in Cooch Behar, India, near the village Bherbheri. The cows were handed over to them and they were making their way back early Wednesday morning when members of the BSF, patrolling the Chuangarkata camp of Cooch Behar 140 BSF Battalion, chased them.
The Bangladeshi nationals managed to flee, except for Mizanur who was wounded when BSF opened fire. The others of his group collected him in his wounded state from the spot and brought him to the local upazila health complex where he was declared dead. The police later took the body to the police station.
The upazila health and family planning officer, Arup Pal, said that Mizan had been shot in the back of his head and had died on the way to the hospital.
Commander of Rangpur-61 BGB Battalion’s Shamshenagar camp, subedar Sultan Munshi confirmed the incident.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of the Patgram police station, Suman Kumar Mahanta, said that Mizanur’s body had been sent to the Lalmonirhat district hospital morgue for autopsy.
