ACC sues ex-Jubo Mohila League leader Papia, her husband

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against the expelled general secretary of Bangladesh Awami Jubo Mohila League’s Narsingdi district unit Shamima Nur Papia, and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon for embezzling Tk 62.4 million.

ACC deputy director Shamim Ara Momtaj filed the case with Dhaka Coordinated Office-1, reports news agency UNB.

The commission launched an inquiry on 22 February against Papia on charge of her alleged involvement in accumulating illegal wealth.

On 23 February, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided two flats belonging to Papia and Sumon after arresting them at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 22 February. RAB seized counterfeit notes, foreign currencies and around Tk 250,000 in cash.

The RAB team also found around Tk 5.8 million in cash raiding two flats on Indira Road in Dhaka and also a presidential suite at a five-star hotel.
