Protesting students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) were assaulted Saturday by leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), UNB reports.

The students alleged that 30 to 40 BCL men attacked them in the evening, leaving six students injured.

The injured are Shahriar Abedin, Mainul Islam Rashu, Yasir Sarker, Rupel Chakma, Nafis Hasan and Antik.

Students of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury female dormitory have been protesting since Thursday to have their three-point demand met by the authorities. The demands include the removal of the hall provost Jafrin Ahmed.

However, BCL leaders of SUST denied any attack took place.

It was only after the intervention of proctor Alamgir Kabir and director of Student Advice and Guidance professor Zaheer Uddin, that the BCL activists left the area, reports our SUST correspondent.

Earlier on Thursday night, students of Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall took position in front of the university vice-chancellor’s residence protesting and complaining of misbehaviour by the hall provost. They left on getting assurances from the VC of solving the problem.

However, the students resumed their protest on Saturday as their demands remained unfulfilled.
