Rivals chop off Jubo League man’s hand in Pirojpur
Rivals, in an attack on an activist of Jubo League, chopped off his hand and stabbed another activist, over previous enmity.
The incident took place in Uttar Kadamtala village of Pirojpur’s Sadar upazila around 11:30am on Thursday.
The activist losing his right hand was Nadim Khan, 25, from Tejdaskati village of Sadar upazila while the injured activist was Masud Khan, 34, from Uttar Kadamtala village of the upazila.
Critically injured Nadim Khan was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Alim Khan, younger brother of Masud Khan, said, “Nadim Khan is a friend of my brother. He had been staying at our home from today’s (Thursday) morning. A group of 20-25 people led by Faruk Hossain Sheikh attaked our house with knives and sticks. My brother and Nadim Khan ran to the nearby paddy field to take shelter. The attackers then hacked both of them and left the scene.”
General secretary of Awami League’s Kadamtala union parishad unit Hanif Khan said Nadim is an activist of Jubo League. At the instructions of the Sadar upazila vice chairman Bayezid Hossain, his two uncles, Shihab Hossain Sheikh and Faruk Hossain Sheikh, led the attack on Nadim Khan and Masud Khan.
Shihab Hossain Sheikh, who is also the chairman of Kadamtala union, and his brother Faruk Hossain Sheikh could not be reached for comment.
Sadar upazila vice chairman Bayezid Hossain said, “I was at the secretariat in Dhaka during the incident. I had appeared on Facebook Live to reveal my whereabouts. Nadim Khan and Masud Khan beat up a certain Ali on last Wednesday. Both came under counterattack as a sequel to previous enmity.”
Physician on duty at Pirojpur Sadar hospital Arif Hasan said the right wrist of Nadim Khan was chopped by a shar weapon and he bore injury marks on his left hand and rest of the body.
Masud Khan also bore injuries on his body, physician Arif Hasan said adding that, after giving first aid Nadim Khan has been shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital and Masud Khan was admitted to the Sadar hospital.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar police station AJM Masuduzzaman said the attack took place over previous enmity and establishing supremacy. Rivals cut off the hand of a man and process is on to lodge a case, he added.
Pirojpur’s superintendent of police (SP) Mohammad Saidur Rahman visited the spot and said legal action is being taken against people involved in the incident.
