Govt investigating DMC’s Tk 200m spending on hotel rent, food

The government is investigating the allocation of Tk 200 million for hotel rent and food of medical professionals at Dhaka Medical College, reports UNB.

The matter came into light after deputy opposition leader GM Quader raised the issue at the general discussion on the proposed national budget for 2020-21 fiscal year in parliament on Monday.

Quader voiced doubts about misuse of public money noting that physicians and health workers of Dhaka Medical College spent Tk 20 million on food and hotel rent.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina said the cost seems to be slightly unusual.

"We're investigating it as to why it is so unusual. We'll take action if any irregularity occurred there," she said.

Meanwhile, the health authorities on Monday said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases soared to 141,801 in Bangladesh with 1,783 people dying of COVID-19 since 18 March.
