Govt to vaccinate children 12-17 years of age for Covid-19: Health minister

Health minister Zahid Maleque has said the government will vaccinate children of 12 to 17 years of age for Covid-19 and children can register for vaccination with their birth certificate.

The minister said this at a press conference at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in Dhaka on Sunday.

Zahid Maleque said it would be possible to inoculate 80 million (8 crore) people with two doses of vaccine by December-January.

Covid-19 infection has dropped in the country. Many hospital beds and ICU facility are vacant now. The pressure of Covid patients in hospitals is very low. The Covid situation has somewhat eased in the country, he added.

The country has seen a downtrend in Covid infection recently with the rate of detection dropping below 3 per cent for five consecutive days.
