57 stranded Bangladeshis return home from India

Fifty-Seven Bangladesh nationals, who got stuck in India due to lockdown to curb the outbreak of novel coronavirus there, returned home through Benapole check-post under a special arrangement on Thursday, reports news agency UNB.

Subhankar Kumar Mandal, medical officer of Benapole Immigration Health Centre, said the Bangladesh nationals who returned home were sent the Benapole Community Centre for quarantine.

Those who returned went to India for treatment, business and tourism purposes and got stuck when the Indian government declared lockdown to prevent the coronavirus spread.

A total of 544 people has so far returned from India since 6 April and they were kept in 14-day quarantine at Benapole Community centre and Gazir Dargah in Jashore.

The body of a Bangladesh national who died there was also brought back.
