Cumilla medical officer, 75 others infected with COVID-19

Seventy-six people, including a Chauddagram municipality councillor and a medical officer, in Cumilla were infected with novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours until Tuesday, reports UNB.

So far, the district has recorded 1,096 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

District civil surgeon office sources said the deputy assistant medical officer of Chauddagram upazila health complex, Chauddagram municipality councillor and a driver of an ambulance were among those diagnosed with the novel virus infection.

Of the newly infected, 14 people are from Cumilla city, 16 from Chauddagram upazila, 14 from Debidwar, seven from Laksham, four from Barura, one from Adarsha Sadar upazila, nine each from Burichang and Brahmanpara upazilas and two from Muradnagar upazila.

So far, 30 people have died from coronavirus in the district till Tuesday while 157 people have recovered, the civil surgeon’s office sources added.

The country on Tuesday reported 2,911 new cases, the highest single-day spike. So far, Bangladesh has recorded 52,445 cases of novel coronavirus.

During the same period, 37 more patients died, raising the death toll to 709.
