Man dies in isolation unit of Sylhet hospital

A 36-year-old man, suffering from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) died while undergoing treatment at the isolation unit of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, Sylhet on Tuesday evening.

The hospital’s resident medical officer (RMO) Sushanta Kumar Mahapatra said the patient was already suffering from kidney diseases.

Family and hospital sources said the man is a resident of Juri upazila in Moulvibazar. He returned home from Dubai around one year ago. Since then he has been suffering from kidney diseases.

On 11 May, the man got admitted to a private medical college hospital for dialysis. Since he showed COVID-19 symptoms, his samples were collected and found COVID-19 positive.

Later on 16 May, he was admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital. He underwent dialysis for twice there.

RMO Sushanta Kumar Mahapatra further said the body was handed over to the family members on Tuesday night. He will be buried following the WHO guidelines, he added.
