Teen who died in Chandpur tested positive for COVID-19

A 14-year-old girl, who died at the isolation ward of Chandpur General Hospital, was suffering from coronavirus, her test result showed on Saturday.

Civil surgeon Md Sakhawatullah said 14 people have so far been diagnosed with coronavirus in the district.

After testing the sample collected from the deceased girl, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Saturday confirmed that she was infected, said the civil surgeon.

Sharmin Akhter of Faridganj upazila died at the isolation ward of the hospital on Thursday.

Among the confirmed cases in the district, seven are from Sadar upazila, three from Matlab Uttar, three from Faridganj, and a 12-year-old of Haimchar upazila, said the officials of Civil Surgeon Office.

Altogether, 671 people are staying in home quarantine in the district, said they added.

Bangladesh has so far confirmed 140 deaths and 4,998 coronavirus cases.

Additional director deneral of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Nasima Sultana in the daily health bulletin on Saturday said that coronavirus has spread to 60 districts in the country except Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Jhenaidah and Satkhira.

Jhenaidah reported its first two cases as per the results of the tests carried out at the Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) laboratory on Saturday.
