“The prisoner might have fled in connivance with prison guards or due to their negligence. We will take action against those involved after investigation,” Jahanara told Prothom Alo.

Abu Bakar Siddique was shifted to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur from Rajshahi Central Jail after he had been sentenced to death in 2011. Later, on 27 July 2012, his death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

The prisoner is from Abad Chandipur in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.

An official of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 told Prothom Alo that the same prisoner went missing on 13 May 2015. He was hiding in a septic tank in the cell area of the jail and found after a day.

Jail superintendent said Abu Bakar might have fled by climbing the 18-feet wall of the jail.

The authorities will file a case in this regard and the police have been informed of the incident, she said.
