Dhaka has asked Pakistan on Sunday not to interfere in Bangladesh's internal affairs like war crimes trial, and also to stop misinterpreting the 1974 tripartite agreement.

State minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam said this in the foreign affairs department, reacting to a release of Pakistan foreign ministry that expressed deep concern and anguish over the rejection of Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami’s review petition against his death penalty.

On Thursday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected the review petition filed by Matiur Rahman Nizami, clearing all the legal barriers towards his execution.

"We do not welcome anyone interfering in our internal issues. However, Pakistan is doing it repeatedly. Those who are under trial, are Bangladeshi citizen," said the junior minister.

He also said it was mentioned in 1974 tripartite agreement that the 195 Pakistani war criminals who were repatriated to Pakistan would not be tried.
But it was not mentioned that the Bangladesh nationals would not be tried, he added.

“We have noted with deep concern and anguish the dismissal of the review application on the death sentence, by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, for Jamaat-e-Islami leader Matiur Rahman Nizami,” read a release of Pakistan foreign ministry.

It further said, “We have also been following the reaction of the international community and human rights organisations to the controversial trials in Bangladesh, related to the events of 1971.”
